The creation of the EU and the reshaping of the European critical study
on deviance and social control
Description
The basic objective of this course is studentsʼ familiarization with the
reshaping of the critical thought on deviance and social control in
present era and especially concerning the creation of the EU. At the
same time, the course aims at the understanding of the political,
economic and macro-sociological circumstances that create the shift in
global penal and social values and the retrospective actions by the EU (beyond
the state) mechanisms. The first 3 hours of the course will be a
Professorʼs presentation to the student audience and the other 9 hours
will be studentsʼ presentations on EU case studies. Students are
encouraged to use new technology and the web as methods of their
research and presentation.
Impact
At the end of this course student should be able to discuss and apply
concepts concerning EU as a criminal policy actor and to approach with
adequate understanding issues concerning community safety, social
justice, and administrative criminal policy. This learning outcome will
be evaluated through a presentation to an open audience which will have
the opportunity to place questions and participate actively.
